Hi, I’m Alec! I’m an educational psychologist passionate about helping students thrive. With deep expertise in psychoeducational assessment, intervention, special education, and mental health, I work to empower children and young adults facing learning and emotional challenges.
As a school psychologist for Twin Rivers Unified School District, I collaborate with teachers, families, and students to conduct comprehensive evaluations and determine eligibility for special education services. Beyond assessments, I provide compassionate, mental health support for students navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, self-esteem struggles, family difficulties, life transitions, and trauma.
In 2020, I was honored to receive the American Psychological Association (APA) Minority Fellowship for Services to Transition Age Youth—a testament to my dedication to supporting underserved communities. I am also a proud LGBTQIA+ ally, committed to fostering a safe, affirming space where everyone feels heard and valued.
Outside of work, you’ll find me enjoying time with my family, experimenting in the kitchen, exploring new places, and taking long walks with my dog, Mika.
I completed my undergraduate education at the University of California, Irvine, earning Bachelor of Arts degrees (B.A) in Psychology and Social Behavior and Education Sciences. I went on to attend Chapman University, where I earned a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in professional clinical counseling and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology.
My counseling approach is humanistic and person-centered, with an emphasis on client strengths. I pull from a variety of therapeutic techniques depending on my client's needs, including motivational interviewing (MI), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness-based interventions.
Greetings! I'm Nora, a dedicated school psychologist. My journey into this profession was deeply influenced by my experience as a parent supporting children facing academic challenges due to ADHD symptoms. As a life-long learner, I delved into research to discover effective ways to assist them. This passion for helping struggling students guided my path towards education, where I began work and instinctively supported learners in overcoming their difficulties.
Discovering a profession that comprehensively trains individuals in aiding others was a revelation. I enrolled in one of the state's premier programs to become an educational psychologist and counselor. Through this journey, I received rigorous training in the latest research and highly effective interventions across psychoeducational assessment, disabilities, special education, behaviors, mental health, and counseling.
Since 2018, I've served as a school psychologist within the Twin Rivers Unified School District. Collaborating closely with teachers, families, and students, I aim for optimal outcomes for diverse learners with unwavering care and integrity. My focus extends to providing top-notch educationally-related mental health services. I specialize in assisting students facing challenges such as school avoidance, low motivation, technology addiction, poor executive functioning and self-regulation, low self-esteem, and trauma.
Beyond my professional endeavors, I find solace in practicing yoga, meditation, engaging in Bible study, and cherishing moments with family and friends when not passionately dedicated to my work.
I attained my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and American Literature, accompanied by a minor in Communication, from the University of Texas, El Paso. Subsequently, I pursued studies in psychology at the College of the Sequoias. Later, I advanced my education at California State University, Sacramento, achieving both a Master of Arts (M.A.) and an Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology.
I specialize in client-centered counseling, prioritizing the establishment of robust therapist-client alliances. My approach aims to equip clients with psychological tools necessary for navigating complex emotions and situations, employing mindfulness-based therapy as a key component of treatment.
